'Remembering & Forgetting' is an ongoing series of works by Kevin
Carter encompassing paintinh, installation and film.
Painting
Each set of paintings
features a study of three works by Thomas Moran -
'Chasm of Colorado' (1874),Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone’ (1872)
and Mountain of the Holy Cross (1875) - . Each works is overlaid with
a schematic detailing research undertaken by the artist into the key
elements
of the National Missile Defence system currently being developed by
the USA.
Each painting is a record of the artists attempts at remembering how to paint, starting at 'Attempt #1' . At the same time the work is a visual reminder of his research into the NMD, as a means to not forgetting this data.

Film.
In a similar manner to the paintings the film acts as a flawed aide de
memoire, as an animated schematic builds the overwhelming weight of the data
reduces its effectiveness as a document containing meaning, the resulting film
then breaks down into an animated series of unconnected information moments.
