Public Art Proposals. Burnley Borough Council (BBC).
Peer Plaques the first of three artworks commissioned by Burnley Borough Council under the Burnley Public art project has recently been installed.
The artworks are the outcome of a two-year residency in which an artist-architect team made up of artist Kevin Carter and civic Architects has prompted discussion about the present and future effects of regeneration, specifically Housing Market Renewal (HMR) in Burnley.
The project aims to reflect local residents' experience of HMR and was jointly funded by CABE's PROJECT inititative, Burnley Borough Council and Elevate East Lancashire.
The three proposals produced as part of the commission helped Burnley Borough Council win a commendation in the 2007 Royal Town Planning Institute National Awards in March 2008, and was awarded a Royal Town Planning Institute, North West Regional Award in October 2007, for Community Engagement in Area Action Plans.
